Luggage size on an airplane can be a detrimental step in your trip. Before you leave for your language trip, take the time to find out about each airline’s standards for checked and carry-on luggage.

What size carry-on luggage do I need?

First of all, each passenger on the flight is entitled to one piece of checked luggage, generally weighing a maximum of 20kg. You have the option to pay extra for additional or heavier luggage. The cabin luggage must not exceed 10kg and very precise dimensions. These may vary according to the airline. 

A little advice: remember to weigh your empty suitcases. This will give you an idea of how much business you can actually take.

Conditions depending on the company

As an indication, here are the dimensions accepted by the companies in February 2020:

Air France : Cabin baggage size : 55 x 35 x 25 cm max (including pockets, wheels and handles) with a maximum weight of 12kg and for more details, consult Air France baggage information.

EasyJet : Each passenger may take one piece of hand luggage per person on board. Luggage sizes on Easy Jet are checked before boarding. They must not exceed 56 x 45 x 25 cm (including handles and casters).

Ryan Air : All passengers are allowed to bring a small personal bag on board. It should be placed under the seat in front of them. View RyanAir’s baggage policy here

British Airways:   1 handbag/laptop bag is allowed (max. 23 kg / 51lb and up to 40 x 30 x 15 cm / 16 x 12 x 6 in.) plus 1 additional carry-on bag (max. 23 kg / 51 lb and up to 56 x 45 x 25 cm / 22 x 18 x 10 in).
