Ireland: international travel resumes now!

This is the news we’ve all been waiting for! As of July 19,  Ireland will once again welcome all tourists from the EU without quarantine requirements. International travel is back on track and Ireland is ready to welcome all travelers who want to enjoy the great outdoors, the fresh air and its slightly unpredictable weather.

This reopening to tourism, which makes us so enthusiastic, remains however supervised. Let’s see together how to get to Ireland and what anti-COVID formalities travelers will have to respect, on the way in and on the way out.

Travel to Ireland safely

As of July 19, 2021, Ireland will use the EU Digital COVID Certificate (DCC) for travelers from the EU. Whether by ferry or by air, all European travelers to Ireland will be required to present this certificate attesting that :

  • the traveler has received his or her doses of Covid-19 vaccine,
  • or the traveler has had a negative PCR test for less than 72 hours,
  • or the traveler was infected with Covid-19 less than 6 months ago (which allows the traveler to be considered immune).

This health pass is free, valid in all EU countries and can be presented in paper or digital format. Passengers arriving in Ireland with this DCC will no longer have to undergo quarantine.

Smartphone, ID card/passport, boarding pass…there will now be another document to put in your suitcase before you can reach Ireland : the Covid certificate. Don’t forget your windbreaker !

Return to France

If you are vaccinated

As of June 9, vaccinated European travelers will no longer be required to present a negative PCR test to return to France. This new measure takes effect on June 9, the official date of the launch of the health pass in France.

If you are not vaccinated

According to the decree n° 2021-99 of January 30, 2021, any traveler, regardless of the mode of transportation, who wishes to travel to France from Ireland is required to present the result of a negative PCR test less than 72 hours before departure.

Several examination centers are available in the major cities of Ireland such as Dublin, Cork, Galway but also all over Ireland. Linguifamily host families will be able to guide and advise you on this subject.

The cost of a PCR test in Ireland can vary from €90 to €180. It can be partially reimbursed by the French health insurance. You must present your European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) at the time of the test.

“(…) these screening tests are covered at 100 % by the Assurance Maladie on the basis of a fixed price of 35 euros which corresponds to the costs of sampling and analysis. ”
